Amount including VAT€121.00

Rounded to whole cents, just like on your invoice.

This calculator gives an indication. Only your tax return and your own books are decisive.

How does it work?

Enter your amount and pick the rate. Going from excluding to including, the calculator adds the VAT. The other way round it takes the VAT out — which is not the same as subtracting 21%, because the VAT is already inside the amount.

The Netherlands has three rates: 21% (the standard rate), 9% (food, books and hairdressers, among others) and 0% (exports or reverse-charged VAT, for example). Not sure which one applies? Check with the Dutch tax office: it differs per product or service.

Frequently asked questions

How do I take VAT out of an amount?
Divide the amount including VAT by 1.21 (at 21%). From € 121.00 that leaves € 100.00, with € 21.00 of VAT. Subtracting 21% gives € 95.59, which is too little.
When does 9% apply instead of 21%?
The reduced rate covers food, books, medicines, hairdressers, bicycle repairs and passenger transport, among others. Everything else falls under the standard rate of 21%.
Do I have to charge VAT as a starter?
Yes, unless you are exempt or use the small business scheme. The KOR check shows whether that last option is available to you.
